Auckland University of Technology Vice Chancellor Doctoral Scholarships in New Zealand, 2018

The Auckland University of Technology is offering Vice Chancellor Doctoral Scholarships for the 2018 year. These scholarships are awarded to domestic and international applicants who are qualified to register for full-time study in a doctoral degree at AUT.
AUT is a contemporary New Zealand university focused on providing exceptional student opportunities and learning experiences, and graduate success in a context stimulated by impactful research and industry connectivity.
The purpose of the AUT Vice Chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships is to encourage and stimulate doctoral studies in areas of University Research capability.
The minimum IELTS (Academic) scores required for the doctorate is 6.5 overall with 7 in writing and all other bands 6.0 or higher.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing the doctoral program at the Auckland University of Technology.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded to encourage and stimulate doctoral studies in areas of University Research capability. The proposed field of study is one where the University can offer supervision.
Scholarship Award:  The scholarship consists of the following:
  • Annual payment of tuition fees (at the domestic rate) plus the compulsory student services fee;
  • An annual stipend of NZ$25,000 per year

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the normal admission criteria to the doctoral program, including, minimally, second class (first division) honors or equivalent and English language proficiency as stated in the Academic Calendar. The scholarships are awarded on academic merit, recipients of this scholarship will normally have the equivalent of first class honors. Recipients of this scholarship will have an excellent academic record, strong academic references and have demonstrated the potential for high-quality research. The previous study should include research methodology paper(s) and an independent research project, including the writing of a report on that research.
  • Applicants for the April round must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents or AUT alumni.
  • The October round is open to all eligible applicants i.e. applicants may be New Zealand citizens/ permanent residents or International students.
  • The applicant’s proposed field of study must be one where the University can offer supervision. Applicants should contact potential supervisors prior to application to confirm the availability of supervision for their proposed research.
  • Preference will be given to new applicants to the doctoral program at AUT, including those currently in provisional candidature.

College Admission Requirement

How to Apply: There are two parts to the application process. Applicant must 1) apply for this scholarship online and 2) submit their application for the doctoral study if they have not already done so. Both procedures must be initiated for their application to be considered. Domestic applicants are advised to contact the Faculty Postgraduate Office where they intend to study to discuss admission into the Ph.D. program. International applicants should contact phdadmissions-at-aut.ac.nz for advice regarding the admissions process prior to applying for this scholarship. Applicants for this scholarship who have initiated the application for admission are more likely to be successful. The following documents or statements will need to be uploaded and submitted with the application:
  • Academic transcript(s) if any previous tertiary study has been completed at a university other than AUT
  • A brief C.V. (maximum three pages)
  • A two-page proposal outlining the intended research using the template provided with the online application form.
