University of Westminster Research Studentships for International Students in UK, 2017

The University of Westminster Graduate School is offering 22 new MPhil/PhD studentships which will commence in September 2017. These studentships will fund an annual tax-free stipend of £16,000 plus payment of Home/EU tuition fees.
The University of Westminster is internationally recognised for its research in a wide range of subject areas. They focus on excellence in research that makes a difference – benefitting academia, industry and professional practice.
Applicants should hold or expect to be awarded a 2.1 honours degree or above and preferably a Master’s degree, and should, where relevant, demonstrate English language competence of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Course Level: Studentships are available for pursuing a research programme.
Study Subject: Studentships are awarded in Media, Arts and Design, Life Sciences, Electronics and Computer Science, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Social Sciences and Humanities, Westminster Business School, Built Environment and Higher Education.
Scholarship Award: Studentships will fund an annual tax-free stipend of £16,000 plus payment of Home/EU tuition fees. Some subject areas will extend the funding to cover full Overseas tuition fees and, where applicable, this will be indicated within the subject area and/or project concerned.

Eligibility: All applications are assessed on an individual basis and in some cases the University may require students to meet higher entry requirements than the minimums outlined below. MPhil/PhD applicants should normally have:
  • A minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent
  • And preferably a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending)
  • Applicants whose secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency.
Nationality: The UK and international students can apply for these scholarships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants should hold or expect to be awarded a 2.1 honours degree or above and preferably a Master’s degree.
English Language Requirement: Applicants should demonstrate English language competence of at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
How to Apply: University uses the national online applications system, UKPASS for all research degree applications. To make application for an MPhil/PhD please work through the following steps:
  • Check that student meet the entry criteria
  • Check that the Faculty can provide supervision in their research area. If they have not done so yet, please review the research areas. They will be asked to confirm this in their UKPASS application form.
  • Consider funding options – are there any Studentship or Scholarships available to the student or will they have to be applying as a self-funded student?
  • What documents students will be required to upload with their UKPASS application:
    a) Research proposal of between 2,000 and 3,500 words (four to seven pages) in length.
    b) Scanned copies of all your relevant qualification certificates and transcripts (if your award is pending, please upload the transcript of the modules already undertaken).
    c) If secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English, you should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, for example, IELTS or TOEFL certificates.
    d) 2 academic references.
